Once again Colonel By Day was a huge success drawing over 5000 people to the Bytown Museum site between Parliament Hill and the Chateau Laurier to commemorate Ottawa's founding father Lt. Colonel John By! The event took place August 1st, 2011 from 11AM until 4PM, and the beautiful sunny weather helped visitors enjoy the free outdoor heritage family event to its fullest!

As the finale event to the Rideau Canal Festival, this year's event was better than ever with new performances, exhibitors, and children's programming added to the roster of events! Visitors were able to enjoy costumed characters, historical theatre by Vintage Stock Theatre, performances by FiddleGround, Heritage Hands Ottawa Drum Club, the Ingleneuk Scottish Country Dancers, the Ottawa English Country Dance Club, and the Chad Wolfe Dance Studio, story-telling by local Ruthanne Edward, demonstrations by heritage lace makers and a traditional rug braider, free face painting by You-Name-It Face Painting, children's activities and crafts, musket and blacksmithing demonstrations, table top exhibits by local museums and heritage groups, and free admission to the Bytown Museum!

In partnership with the Bytown Museum, CHOO/COPO would like to thank all of the volunteers, staff, and visitors for a great event! Over 5000 visitors were estimated to have joined us for the day’s festivities.

Encore une fois la journée du Colonel By était un grand succès, attirant plus que cinq mille personnes au site du Musée Bytown entre la colline parlementaire et le Château Laurier pour commémorer le père fondateur d'Ottawa, Lt. Colonel John By. L'évènement a eu lieu le premier août, 2011 de 11h à 16h, et le jour ensoleillé s'est assuré que les visiteurs s'amusaient au festival patrimonial de famille gratuit et en plein air.

Comme l'évènement final du Festival du Canal Rideau, cette année la journée du Colonel By était mieux que jamais avec des spectacles, exposants, et activités d'enfants ajouter à la liste d'évènements. Visiteurs ont bien aimés les personnages en costumes, du théâtre historique par Théâtre Vintage Stock, spectacles par FiddleGround, les tambours du patrimoine de l'Outaouais , Ingleneuk Scottish Country Dancers, Ottawa English Country Dance Club, et le Chad Wolfe Dance Studio, des histoires par conteuse locale Ruthanne Edward, démonstrations du tissage de tapis et passementerie, peinture sur visage gratuit par You-Name-It Face Painting, activités d'enfants, démonstrations d'armes aux feu et forgeron, expositions du patrimoine, et l'admission gratuit au musée Bytown!
