SPECIAL LECTURE: Shanghai Art Deco
Shanghai counts among the cities in the world with the largest number of Art Deco buildings from the 1920s and 1930s. The lecture will situate Art Deco within the growing Chinese interest at the time in Western concepts of luxury, nightlife, cinema, graphic art, fashion and furniture using examples of hotels, department stores, cinemas, residences and public buildings.
PRESENTER: Ian Ferguson, retired Canadian diplomat and Heritage Ottawa board member, has his M.A. in Art History and has written articles for the National Gallery Magazine and the Journal of Canadian Art History.
