An event every week that begins at 09:00 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, repeating until July 27, 2018

Each Curious Minds program will explore a different theme and will feature a hands-on activity or craft to allow children to engage with local history in a fun and unique way.

Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from July 4 to July 27 – 9 am to 12 pm

Ages 6 – 9
Cost: $6.50 per child

July 4 – Telling Stories and Communication Technology
How do we use stories to tell our own family histories?

July 5 – Victorian to Modern Medical Practices
How do modern medical practices compare to the Victorian era? Many important medical advancements were made in the late 1800s from anesthetic to disinfectants. Learn about the history of hospitals and medical tools. Explore how our understanding of germs and cleanliness of changed over time and craft your very own soap.

Help us decorate a get-well poster for CHEO patients that will be signed by kids from across the city at museum programs throughout the summer!

Explore the history of sailing in Nepean. Learn about the knots sailors use, design a pennant, and build your own miniature sailboat.

What role does music play in our lives and our communities?

July 12 – Step Into a Poet’s Shoes featuring Ottawa Poet Laureate Jamaal Jackson-Rogers
Explore the power of words and the works of Canadian poets including Nepean’s William Wilfred Campbell. Write your own poem and have it displayed at the museum. Jamaal Jackson-Rogers, is one of Ottawa’s first poet laureates in nearly three decades. Jamaal is a spoken word artist, arts educator, residential counsellor for adults with disabilities, creative director of Origin Arts and Community Centre, and an advocate for youth and the arts through Youth Ottawa.
