The Museum is officially reopening this weekend during Doors Open Ottawa. Get a behind-the-scenes tour of the collection, see fibre artists at work (you might even get to try your hand at a spinning wheel), and peruse the new exhibition Woven Through Time. 

Goulbourn Museum will be partnering with the 100th Regiment of Foot for the summer season and offering the Hands on History program which was a big hit at last year’s Father’s Day event. The summer schedule has yet to be finalized but the Regiment will be onsite during both days of Doors Open, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.(June 2 & 3). In the morning the soldiers will be doing drills and musket demonstrations and in the afternoon from 1-3 p.m. the public can register for Hands on History and fire a Brown Bess Musket themselves. Pending training and approval, visitors will be allowed to fire three shots for a total of $22. (The program is weather permitting as the muskets do not fire in wet weather.) Before the end of the summer we will be launching a new outdoor exhibition which interprets the Museum building, grounds, and the history of Stanley’s Corners.

Rebuilding the permanent exhibits will be a gradual process but our beloved Village Store exhibit is at the top of the list. Among the first priorities is the creation of a welcome centre and gift shop area as well as bringing programming back into the Museum after being closed for more than 10 months.

After this weekend the Museum will return to its regular schedule of being open Wednesday–Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
